Jessica Wright

Logistics Technician

Jessica’s job title is Automation and Controls Engineering Apprentice at Amazon

What I do

The role I do is all about the programming and the running of the sortation centre, where we process parcels that are already packaged, to get them to where they need to be. For instance, a parcel might come in from Manchester that needs to be delivered in Birmingham and we send it on to them. A lot of what I do is monitoring the systems and sensors and ensuring everything runs smoothly.

What I love most about my job

Coming here is like coming home, as everyone is welcoming, and it’s like a family!

The best bits about working in a team

I am lucky to be part of three separate teams on my apprenticeship. There are other apprentices on the same course as me and we support each other. I like being able to bounce ideas off other people and we all help each other. I am learning all the time – I am able to turn to people who have 30 years of industry experience and ask them questions and they are happy to help.

The most exciting thing I’ve achieved so far in my job

Twenty-five of us went on a Women in Engineering team building trip to meet with other women in this industry from up and down the country – it was another whole new support system of women supporting other women.
