I was really into both science and art at school. In the end, I chose art because that was where my passion lay. At school I was taught very traditional 'still life' art but then I did a foundation degree in Art at Falmouth, where I got a chance to try out different things like fine art, printing, and sculpture.

From there, I eventually did a degree in Illustration at Brighton. I started doing a few bits and bobs of freelance work while still at university. After I graduated, I got a commission to do a music video for a friend and I submitted it to every film festival I could find. I got accepted into the BFI Future Film festival and this was sponsored by Ridley Scott. I was on their roster for a while and then they eventually signed me. I also work on a freelance basis.

My job involves bringing drawings to life. I do everything from the concept, character design, and storyboard to the actual animation itself - literally everything you see in the final product, which could be a music video or short clip. Animation is very labour intensive and quite draining, so I split my time between illustration and animation - roughly half and half.

People don't realise how technical animation can be as there's so much that goes into it. From learning software, to making sure everything is so precise and that all the drawings absolutely line up. So, I'll take my own illustrations and then animate them by hand – which involves drawing each individual frame. There are 12 frames a second, so that's 12 drawings every single second all drawn by me! I draw on a Wacom tablet and I also have a very big screen. I work from home which I love, and I normally finish at around 7pm.

My job is solitary which I like. I find it very peaceful, and you can organise your own time. Instagram is a useful way to connect to people who are doing similar work.
