Meet Munro Pearson

Wind Turbine Technician

Munro is an offshore Wind Turbine Technician at RWE

What I do

My job is to make sure offshore wind turbines keep spinning, so they can generate electricity that goes to people’s homes.

I maintain the turbines and fix problems when they break down. By doing this, I help produce clean energy and support my local community.

What I love about my job

The thing I love most is being able to work locally and give something back to my community.

I’m from Grimsby, so it means a lot to me to use the skills I’ve learned to support a local site. It gives me a real sense of pride and fulfilment knowing the work I do helps power homes.

The skills I use most

Teamwork is one of the most important skills I use. I work closely with others to solve problems and complete tasks safely.

Problem solving is a big part of the job too. When something goes wrong, we work together to figure out the cause and fix it.

Communication is also really important. I need to clearly explain issues and work with others to fix them.

My confidence has grown a lot, which helps me take on tasks I might not have done before.

A little more about my everyday role

The best bits about working in a team

Working in a team is a huge part of my job. We all support each other, especially during long shifts.

Being able to talk through problems and figure out solutions together is really rewarding. It also makes the job more enjoyable because you’re not doing it alone.

The most exciting thing I’ve achieved so far in my job

One moment I felt really proud was helping at a careers fair.

I spoke to younger people about opportunities in my industry and encouraged them to consider a job like mine. It felt great to inspire others.

A surprising fact about my job

One surprising fact is how powerful wind turbines are. One rotation of the blades can generate enough electricity to power a home for a week!

The wind farm I work on can power around 1.2 million homes!

The advice I’d give to someone younger

You don’t need any experience to start an apprenticeship. I didn’t have any, and I still made it work. Just be interested, be confident, and be willing to learn.

Engineering is open to everyone, and there are lots of opportunities if you give it a go.
