Technicians are hands-on problem-solvers. They mix practical skills with an understanding of science, engineering, technology or maths to do important jobs that keep the world running.

Where do technicians work?

Technicians work in all kinds of places, depending on the type of technician you are. Typical workplaces can vary from hospitals and medical labs to TV studios and music venues.

How do you become a technician?

You don’t need a degree to get started. You can:

  • Do a T-level (a mix of classroom learning and work experience)
  • Start an apprenticeship (earn while you learn)
  • Join a school leaver programme or college course
  • Or train on the job while working in a junior role

There are lots of different routes. The important thing is finding something that suits you.
