New Technicians Gallery to launch at the Science Museum

Ever wanted to gain a closer glimpse at how technicians use their skills to make a difference in the world? In Autumn 2022, you will get a chance to, with the launch of the new interactive Technicians: The David Sainsbury Gallery, at the world-renowned Science Museum in London.

The first-of-its-kind interactive gallery aimed at 11 to 16-year-olds will give visitors the chance to:

  • Explore where technicians work
  • Hear their extraordinary stories
  • Meet real technicians
  • Perform technical tasks such as fixing a turbine fault, analysing medicines in a laboratory, creating visual effects on a blockbuster set or operating a manufacturing robot!

Technicians and technical apprentices are key to making so much happen in our lives. From healthcare technicians key to our response to the pandemic, to renewable energy technicians helping us to transition to a low carbon economy and protect the planet. There is an increasing demand for technicians and apprentices so we can meet the challenges of the future. This free and exciting gallery will help to show young people the variety of fulfilling technician roles available and the pathways they can take to them.

Perhaps you or someone you know has the analytical, creative and practical skills to be a technician and help solve real-world problems in the future? If that rings true, or you would just like to learn about all of the technicians behind our modern-day lives, this will be an exhibition you won’t want to miss.

Technicians: The David Sainsbury Gallery is supported by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation as Principal Funder and will open at the Science Museum in autumn 2022. The gallery has been designed by JAC Studios, Denmark.
