Assembly Team Manager
As an Assembly Team Manager at Brompton Bikes, Sunday oversees the whole manufacturing process, from the first sheet of metal to the final bike. He’s also the one who makes sure that every bike is in the same top condition – so excellent attention to detail is a priority in his job.
Sunday has been working in manufacturing since coming to England in 1991, beginning at Mars Confectionery as a Factory Operator. He then moved to GSK as a Line Operator. “That’s where I learned how to smart tool and assemble machinery and how to fault-find issues with the machines.”
He joined Brompton in 2013 and couldn’t be happier with the move. “At GSK we worked on machine lines, so machines were doing most of the work! Brompton uses people lines, so we all create the bikes together. What makes it interesting is that you and the same team are involved all the way through from raw materials to a fully functioning bike. That really excites all of us.”
He’s now also managing a team of people, which comes with its own set of responsibilities. Sunday needs to keep the team motivated, make sure they’re happy with their work and help keep everyone performing at their best.
Throughout his career Sunday has done most of his learning on the job – and now he’s helping to train others too. “I’ve found that you don’t need a degree to work in manufacturing. With the right on-the-job training I think you can learn any skill.”
