Staying positive is a key skill for technicians. Regardless of their industry, the role of any technician involves staying calm in the face of all types of challenges. Take David, an Agricultural Technician with Turney Agriculture:
To embrace every job as a challenge is a big part of being a technician. It’s no good going into a job and saying, “Oh I can't do that”. Go to it – if you're struggling, you can always ask someone. No one knows everything, and a lot of people have already been there before and tried it.
Are you good at seeking out opportunities in difficult situations? Or encouraging others to keep going in the face of adversity? Or perhaps you’re the calm one in your group when something goes wrong! Staying positive doesn’t mean that you aren’t allowed to feel negative emotions – that would a) be impossible and b) be quite unhealthy! If you have this skill, it means you can recognise your negative emotions, and then manage them effectively.
The Skills Builder Universal Framework provides lots of information and ideas on developing essential skills such as staying positive. So, even if you think you are already pretty good at using different tactics and strategies to overcome setbacks and achieve goals, why not take a look and see if there are any areas that you could brush up on?
